For
the chance to work with Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton,
coupled with the fact that the films producer,
once again, is Robert DeNiro, Leo signed on to play
Marvin, the troubled teen whose delinquency borders
on the criminal.
Reunited
by the impending death of sister Keaton, Streep drags
a reluctant Leonardo along for a ride he wants no
part of - a ride that would take him not only to the
doorstep of his dying aunt, but to the entrance to
his own heart. Aloof to the point of icy and closed
off at the films start, Leo gradually lets down
his guard and eventually shakes off the chip he has
worn so prominently and for so long on his uneasy
shoulder.
With
touching performances by all (Keaton was nominated
for an Academy Award for Best Actress), Leo once again
shines in the role of a boy at war with himself who
takes it out on the rest of the world.
